Product Overview

The Fenix PD40R V3.0 Rechargeable Flashlight is an upgrade that checks all the improvements customers have been asking for. The newly designed patented mechanical switch has raised grips for easy one-handed operation. Simply rotate the dial to access its modes—great for gloved hands. There is a hard stop before you progress to the flashing modes so you’ll always know when you are at the brightest setting without accidentally activating SOS or Strobe. Able to blast a maximum of 3000 lumens now 23% farther, this flashlight is USB Type-C rechargeable. NO TAIL SWITCH allows for the tail to stand the light and an IP68 rating makes it durable in any conditions. Choose the Fenix PD40R V3.0 Flashlight when you need maximum brightness with a simple-to-use interface.

Warning: Do not mix batteries of different brands, sizes, capacities or types. Doing so may cause damage to the flashlight or to the batteries being used.

*21700 Li-ion batteries are powerful cells designed for commercial applications and must be treated with caution and handled with care. Only using quality batteries with circuit protection will reduce the potential for combustion or explosion; but cell damage or short circuiting are considered user induced damage and are not covered by any Fenix warranty or liability.

Battery Replacement

Unscrew the light body and insert the battery with the anode side (+) towards the light head, then screw the light body back on.

Charging

  1. First switch off the light and plug the USB A socket of the charging cable into an appropriate A/C powered USB plug/outlet, then connect the USB Type-C socket of the charging cable to the light.
  2. The indicator will display red while charging, and will turn to green when fully charged.
  3. Once charging is completed, be sure to unplug the charging cable and close the anti-dust cover.
  4. Only low and med outputs are available while charging.

Note:

  1. The normal charging time of the included Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 rechargeable battery is approximately 3 hours from depleted to fully charged.
  2. Recharge a stored light every four months to maintain optimum performance of the battery.

Battery level indication

When the light is switched on, the battery level indicator besides the charging port will light up to display the battery status, the indicator will stay on for 3 seconds before it goes off.

Green light on: saturated 100% - 85%

Green light flashes: sufficient 85% - 50%

Red light on: poor 50% - 25%

Red light flashes: critical 25% - 1%

Note: This feature only works with the Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 battery and the Fenix ARB-L21-4000P battery.

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The lamp will accumulate a lot of heat when used at relatively high output levels for extended periods. When the lamp reaches a temperature of 60°C or above, the lamp will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 60°C, it will then allow the user to select these modes again.

Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the lamp is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Low output is reached. When this brightness level is reached (Low output), the battery level indicator blinks to remind you to recharge or replace the battery.

Note: This feature only works with the Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 battery and the Fenix ARB-L21-4000P battery.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fully charge the light in time to ensure normal use next time.
  • Fenix recommends using an excellent quality battery.
  • If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery, or the light could be damaged by electrolyte leakage or battery explosion.
  • Unscrew the tail cap half a turn or take out the battery to prevent accidental activation during storage or transportation.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the lamp's performance as dirty contacts may cause the lamp to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: Poor battery level.
Solution: Replace or recharge the battery (Ensure the battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).
B: The threads, PCB board contact or other contacts are dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact your authorized distributor.

What kind of LED is used in PD40R V3.0? Does Fenix offer to replace LED?

A: A Luminus SFT70 LED with a lifespan of 50,000 hours.

Fenix does not provide LED replacement services for the time being, and users are not recommended to replace the LEDs independently, which may affect product performance and cause product damage.

What kind of battery can be used in PD40R V3.0? Why can’t the Turbo output be operated while using a Fenix ARB-L21-5000 battery?

A: Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 is recommended. Fenix ARB-L21-5000 is not compatible with PD40R V3.0 because the minimum over-current protection value of ARB-L21-5000 is 14 A while the max operating current of PD40R V3.0 is larger than 14 A. Using a Fenix ARB-L21-5000 battery may activate the protection mechanism of the battery, which will cause light to go out.

What is the color temperature of PD40R V3.0?

A: Around 6500K.

What is the operating voltage of PD40R V3.0?

A: 2.8 V~4.2 V.

What is the runtime of the Turbo output of PD40R V3.0?

A: The runtime of the Turbo output is 2 hours and 40 minutes. The light will rapidly accumulate a lot of heat when used on 3000 lumens / Turbo output. When the light reaches a temperature of a certain level, the light will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. So the runtime of Turbo output is measured in a total of runtime including output at reduced levels due to temperature or protection mechanism in the design. The stated data are from the results produced by Fenix through its laboratory testing under the temperature of 21±3°C according to the ANSI/PLATO FL1 standard. (For specific runtime performance, refer to the runtime graph in the manual)

*According to the ANSI / PLATO FL1 standard, the battery life refers to the time from 30 seconds after the flashlight switch is turned on until the light output reaches 10% of the initial value.

Is PD40R V3.0 rechargeable? How long is the charging time?

A: Yes, PD40R V3.0 is rechargeable with a inner waterproof USB Type-C charging port. The charging time is about 3 hours.

How to prevent accidental activation of the PD40R V3.0?

A: Turn off the flashlight or remove the battery to prevent accidental activation.

Why does the PD40R V3.0 downshift to a lower mode after being used for a while and the higher mode cannot be selected?

A: There are two reasons:

1. Intelligent Overheat Protection

The flashlight will accumulate a lot of heat when used at relatively high output levels for extended periods. When the flashlight reaches a temperature of 60°C or above, the lamp will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature.

2. Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Low output is reached.

Why does the PD40R V3.0 happen to flicker?

A: The reasons that may cause the flashlight to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate:

A: Poor battery level.

Solution: Recharge or replace the battery (Ensure battery is inserted according to the manufacturer’s specifications).

B: The contact point or contact of the battery or flashlight is dirty.

Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact the distributor.

Is the PD40R V3.0 internally waterproof?

A. Yes, the light is internally waterproof and is thus still waterproof without the port cover in place.

What should I do if the PD40R V3.0 needs repair?

A:
1. 15-day replacement: Fenix will replace identical or equal products with documented manufacturing defects within 15 days of purchase.

2. 5-year free repair: Fenix will repair a light free of charge within 5 years (rechargeable battery: 1 year) of purchase if problems develop with normal use.

3. Lifetime maintenance: If repair is required after 5 years from the date of purchase, Fenix will charge for parts. The total repair fee is dictated by the cost of the replaced materials.

Excellent Fenix PD 40 R V 3 flashlight

I recently ordered the Fenix PD 40 R V 3 and the customer service at Fenix Lighting I can say are excellent in their care - service. This Fenix Light I highly recommend as it is quite nice and very bright .

Fenix products are excellent and this particular flashlight is worth getting from this great team.

Fantastic!

As expected, this light delighted me with its quality, variety of brightness settings, perfect size, and battery life. The flap over the charging port is a non-issue if you are concerned about it and are thinking of a tactical light instead. It emits a white light as opposed to the E35R, which is more yellow-colored. I bought both, pictured below. If I had known about the E35R having a yellow color, I would have bought a different model in that size. I have owned Fenix lights in the past and they still function perfectly under harsh conditions. For this reason, I will not consider any other brand.

A Great Big Light

My most used light. I owned the V2, but gave it to my son for his usage since he didn't have a decent flashlight. The addition of a hard stop before the strobe and the SOS is a nice addition, though thankfully, I haven't had to use it yet except to test out. Not necessary to upgrade if you have the V2, but if you don't, this is a great light to own!

Second one

Well some clown stole my last one which I had just purchased. I hate thieves. To be a thief you must be a con, a phoney and a liar. A morally bankrupt fool.
At any rate, my name is on this one. I don't expect it will keep a true fool from stealing it, but maybe help as an identifier if I missplace it and keep an honest/semi honest person honest. I have found this light to be the best one so far. Not quite the brightest, but close. It also has better light longevity than all in it's price range.

PD40R V3.0

Latest in my collection of Fenix headlamps and flashlights. I do a lot of under building plumbing work and these lights make the “sun” shine on my work space. Love the USB rechargeability.

Pd40r

I have version 2, so after fully charging both lights I took them outside and holding one in each hand put them on turbo. The brightness seemed even, the focus however was more pronounced on v3. I've purchased perhaps 17 flashlights, 5 rechargable coast and the other 12 fenix. Looking at the v3 pd40r I found that though it isn't quite as bright as the tk22r which I also have, the lumin loss didn't occur as rapidly on the graph, in fact it, according to the specs appears to diminish in luminosity at a slower pace. The others last several minutes then drop off a cliff down to around 1000. And that, is principally why I picked the pd40r. It is a nice little light and thexed the switch issue. That was a big nuisance. I end up cutting and gluing pieces of plastic on the v2 switch. Works great.
