Battery Replacement

Unscrew the light tail and insert the battery with the anode side (+) towards the light head, then screw the light tail back on.

Charging

  1. First switch off the light and plug the USB A socket of the charging cable into an electrical outlet, then connect the USB Type-C socket of the charging cable to the light.
  2. The indicator will display red while charging, and will turn green when fully charged.
  3. Once charging is completed, be sure to close the anti-dust cover to maintain the dustproof and waterproof ability.

Note:

  1. The normal charging time of the included Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 rechargeable Li-ion battery is approximately 3 hours from depletion to full charging.
  2. Recharge a stored light every four months to maintain optimum performance of the battery.
  3. The light is unavailable while charging and do not remove the battery during charging.

Battery Level Indication

Each time the light is turned on, the indicator will indicate the battery level and will last for 3 seconds.

  • Green light on: saturated 100% - 85%
  • Green light flashes: sufficient 85% - 50%
  • Red light on: poor 50% - 25%
  • Red light flashes: critical 25% - 1%

Note: This only works with Fenix ARB-L21 series 21700 rechargeable Li-ion battery.  Turbo mode cannot be activated when the battery is at or below approximately 50%.

Intelligent Overheat Protection

The light will accumulate a lot of heat when used on High or Turbo modes for extended periods. When the light reaches a temperature of 60°C or above, the light will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 60°C, it will then allow the user the reselection of High or Turbo modes.

Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Eco output is reached. When this happens in Eco output mode, the battery level indicator constantly blinks red to remind you to timely recharge or replace the battery.

Note: This only works with Fenix ARB-L21 series 21700 rechargeable Li-ion battery.

Usage and Maintenance

  • Disassembling the sealed head can cause damage to the light and will void the warranty.
  • Fenix recommends using only a high-quality protected battery.
  • If the light will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery for proper storage.
  • Long-term use can result in O-ring wear. To maintain a proper water seal, replace the ring with an approved spare.
  • Periodic cleaning of the battery contacts improves the light's performance as dirty contacts may cause the light to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate for the following reasons:
    A: Poor battery level.
Solution: Recharge or replace the battery.
B: The contact or contact point of the battery or flashlight is dirty.
Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact your authorized distributor.

  • The LED of this flashlight is not replaceable; so the whole light should be replaced when the LED reaches the end of its life.

Q1. What kind of LED is used in PD36R PRO? Does Fenix offer to replace LED?

A: Three Luminus SFT70 LED with a lifespan of 50,000 hours.

Fenix does not provide LED replacement services for the time being, and users are not recommended to replace the LEDs independently, which may affect product performance and cause product damage.

Q2. What is the color temperature of PD36R PRO?

A: Around 6500K.

Q3. What is the working voltage of PD36R PRO?

A: Voltage: 3.0 - 4.2V.

Q4. What is the runtime of the Turbo mode of PD36R PRO?

A: The runtime of the Turbo mode is 3 hours and 30 minutes. The light will rapidly accumulate a lot of heat when used on 2800 lumens / Turbo mode. When the light reaches a temperature of a certain level, the light will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. So the runtime of Turbo mode is measured in a total of runtime including output at reduced levels due to temperature or protection mechanism in the design. The stated data are from the results produced by Fenix through its laboratory testing under the temperature of 21±3°C according to the ANSI/PLATO FL1 standard. (For specific runtime performance, refer to the runtime graph in the manual).  Turbo mode cannot be activated when the battery is at or below approximately 50%.

Q5. Why is the runtime difference between Turbo mode and High mode only 25 minutes?

A: Because the PD36R PRO is extremely compact, its heat dissipation area is limited. When the light reaches a temperature of a certain level, the light will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature due to the limitation of heat dissipation capacity, resulting in the accumulated runtime of the Turbo mode not much different from the runtime of the High mode. (For specific runtime performance, refer to the runtime graph in the manual)

Q6. Is PD36R PRO rechargeable?

A: Yes, PD36R PRO is rechargeable with a USB Type-C. The charging time is about 3 hours. (The indicator will display red while charging and will turn green when fully charged.)

Q7. How to prevent accidentally activate the PD36R PRO?

A: Unscrew the light tail, or remove the battery to prevent accidental activation.

Q8. Why does the PD36R PRO downshift to a lower mode after being used for a while and the higher mode cannot be selected?

A: There are two reasons:

1. Intelligent Overheat Protection

The light will accumulate a lot of heat when used on Turbo output levels for extended periods. When the light reaches a temperature of 60°C or above, the light will automatically step down a few lumens to reduce the temperature. When the temperature drops below 60°C, it will then allow the user for the reselection of Turbo mode.

2. Low-voltage Warning

When the voltage level drops below the preset level, the flashlight is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level until Eco output is reached. When this happens in Eco output mode, the light blinks 3 times every 5 minutes to remind you to timely recharge or replace the battery.

Q9. Why does the PD36R PRO happen to flicker?

A: The reasons that may cause the light to flicker, shine intermittently or even fail to illuminate:

1. Poor battery level.

Solution: Recharge or replace the battery.

2. The contact or contact point of the battery or flashlight is dirty.

Solution: Clean the contact points with a cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol.

If the above methods don't work, please contact your authorized distributor.

Q10. What kind of battery can be used in PD36R PRO?

A: It is recommended to use 1 x Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 Li-ion battery. And compatible with Fenix ARB-L21-5000U and Fenix ARB-L21-4000P.

Q11. What is the lens made of in the PD36R PRO and how big is it?

A.  The lens in the PD36R PRO is made of glass. It is 23.9 mm in diameter and 1.5 mm thick.

Q12.  Is the PD36R PRO internally waterproof?

A. Yes, the light is internally waterproof and is thus still waterproof without the port cover in place.

Q13.  What is the APF?

A: The APF (Advanced Pulse-frequency Transmission System) was developed by Fenix Laboratory for producing better flashlights. It has abandoned the traditional development way, breaking through the technology bottleneck, allowing flashlight with a tail switch to achieve a higher level of performance:

1. Higher output: the APF system has made higher lumens from a forward switch possible, it breaks the limitation of current.

2. Simpler multi-functional tail switch: this APF technology can transmit various signal commands through a single layer within the light body. Traditional signal transmission requires a multi-layer system. Thanks to this new single-layer system, the light size can be greatly reduced and the structure will be more compact.

3. Better anti-interference performance: the APF system combats signal interference, but it doesn't work if it is applied to a magnetic switch. Therefore, the PD36 PRO will be less prone to interference based on the use of a mechanical switch.

Q14. What should I do if the PD36R PRO needs repair?

A: 1. 15-day replacement: Fenix will replace identical or equal products with documented manufacturing defects within 15 days of purchase.

2. 2-year free repair: Fenix will repair a light free of charge within 2 years of purchase if problems develop with normal use.

3. Lifetime maintenance: If repair is required after 2 years from the date of purchase, Fenix will charge for parts. The total repair fee is dictated by the cost of the replaced materials.

4. If you need warranty service, fill out the warranty form at https://www.fenixlighting.com/pages/warranty-repairs to start your repair claim.
